Something happened about two days before Em turned one.  She suddenly realized the ground and her stomach could go together.  She also realized how to kick and throw her fists around.  That said, my sweet, smiling, obliging little girl suddenly realized that she could put her will and body to work for her.  There has not been a tantrum-free day since, which is rather sad.  Em is still smiling 98% of the time, but, as I learned today in the grocery store, she is not as easy to placate as she once was.  Sadly, my baby has decided that, like everything else, doing things sooner is better.  So, being a one year old is apparently the new two and 'terrible' is apparently the new 'cute.'  The 10-15 minutes of the day when her will clashes with mine are not
ever fun.  However, the rest of the day is sheer delight!  Em is learning how to get into everything, be apart of everything, and manipulate everything!!  Sometimes it drives me crazy (like when she found the chemical cleaners under the sink and I still can't find a child-safety for the doors) but for the most part, it's wonderful to sit and revel in her discovering her world.

Children's walkers can still be found here in South Africa, and we got one for Em so that she could walk around on the tile floors without freezing her knees and hands from crawling around.  It seemed so ridiculous to have it wasting space anymore now that Em is walking, so I collapsed it to put away.  Apparently, the shorter version seemed much more fascinating than the usable one!

Over the last four years, we've had this amazing basket that my folks
had at their house and was accidentally put into our things from the wedding when we moved back to IL.  I always intended to give it back to Mom, but we never seemed to have any visits that didn't involve an
airplane, so it never really left our custody.  Then, when we were packing to move here, it seemed such a staple in our house that again it got packed.  I love putting throw blankets into it, in case people get cold.  Em discovered it while playing with Lani and it seemed she found her "ark"... this basket was her happy amusement for almost an hour until parts of the basket started showing up on Em's chin because her play starting involving chewing... just like her best friend Lani.  That was the point at which it went out of reach of the two ankle-biters in our family!

You'll get through it....mine all did the same thing. They went from sweet and adorable....to almost possessed at times..haha...Needless to say - as long as you stay consistent in your discipline - she'll grow out of it....just not as fast as you'll want! lol

p.s....I LOVE the disclaimer...I should use it more often myself! ;)
